Highlight Important Areas Of Your Lawn With Outdoor Lights

By Thomas Fryd

There is no reason why you shouldn't be able to enjoy time outdoors once the sun goes down. Especially in the summertime, entertaining guests outdoors is a great pastime. To make these experiences more pleasant and safe, you can install outdoor lighting. Outdoor lighting can also highlight your home or certain areas of your landscaping. You can light your pool so you can swim safely at night. You can also light up your garden, or just certain plants in your garden to add emphasis on certain areas. You can also light your patio, porch, etc. As you can see, the possibilities are endless.

There are plenty of devices to choose from including low and high voltage options, solar power, etc. With all of the options, you are sure to find an option to fit your specific needs.

Lighting installation doesn't have to be difficult. Some, complicated systems are a bit tough to install, but there are plenty of simple designs that are much easier. Street type lamps are some of the more complicated systems, because you have to bolt the lamps into the ground and cement them into place. Tiki or bamboo lights are much easier, because they can be propped up in the ground very easily.

The more difficult to install lighting options may need to be installed by professionals. This would save you from a lot of time and potential frustration. It may even be a good idea to have the simpler systems installed by professionals so they can give advice on the best places for the lights. The lights should be strategically places so they light the largest area with the least number of light fixtures.

You shouldn't overcrowd your yard or garden with the placement of landscaping lights. More lights means an unnecessarily high electric bill. If you are concerned about saving power, you can use low voltage or solar powered lights in addition to strategically placing them. The correct amount of lights will add visibility without being overpowering. You will be sure to have a more pleasant experience outdoors at your home with an outdoor lighting system.

How To Care For Your Bonsai - Watering

By Paul March

Don't you water a bonsai like any other plant? The answer is absolutely not. Bonsai are very particular and specific and how to treat them will depends on lots of factors including enviornment and climate.

Bonsai use water at different rates, which means that because there are many different types of bonsai they will all use water at different times and amounts during their growing cycle. All bonsai are not the same. Different species of bonsai do not have set cycles and should be tended to when necessary.

Watering - never let the compost dry out. That is the quickest way to kill a bonsai. The trees and plants in the ground adapt to their environment, your bonsai cannot do that as they are in such a small scale, that the things you do, or don't do have a big impact on it. In Japan it is said that it takes 3 years to master the proper watering of a bonsai.

Under-watering can be much more harmful for a bonsai than over-watering. Make sure the compost is not dried out, its very important to take a careful note of its condition.

The roots of a bonsai need oxygen to breathe - water comes into contact with the roots and provides oxygen, it flushes out all the by products and in exchange gives fresh air and oxygen which nourishes the plant. If you give too much water the plant will literally suffocate - the fine root hairs cannot breathe and it dies through too much oxygen.

How do you know what the right amount of water is? Sometimes if you are re-potting you can tell that a plant is over-watered because the fine root hairs will turn black and rotten.

There are other signs to look for in order to tell if you are watering incorrectly - loss of vigor, looking tired and no longer vibrant and healthy - also when the foliage turns yellow - or the smaller branches shrink and die away.

Is there a way to remedy this? Yes cutting away the old dead black roots will help. Roots that are rotten promote the growth of bacteria, this can kill plants and so cutting away the old rotten roots will help your plant recover more quickly. It is essential that you do not damage any new growth during this process as this will slow down the recovery process. Most important of all you will need to alter your watering habits!

How often do you water? Never on a set routine. Temperature changes and changing environment mean that you need to adapt to what your bonsai needs. Bonsai only have a small root system and can dry out very quickly, you must keep a careful eye on the needs of each individual plant. Your plant may have damp compost on top, but below be drying out. Each species bonsai plant will use water at different rates according to their living conditions, and must be checked daily.

You can use a wooden toothpick to help you find out what is going on beneath the surface if you put it into the soil and leave it. The next time you check the toothpick you will be able to see by viewing the lack of dampness and this will help you decide how much water you should use.

The needs of you plant will come before your routine, and you should adapt accordingly as correct watering is critical.

How to Come Up With the Best Outdoor Lighting Idea

By Febbe Wallace

Outdoor lighting is great for security reasons. There are some homeowners that use outdoor lighting for aesthetic reasons. Here are some great ideas for excellent outdoor lighting:

- How do you start? It is a fact that there are thousands of different outdoor fixture designs and styles. This can make it even more difficult for you to come up with a great outdoor lighting idea. The best thing to do is to first of all know exactly what you want out of your outdoor lighting. Is it something that you just wish to have for security reasons or do you want your lights to highlight and accent your outdoor property? Do you have a specific theme to your home and outdoor area? Your answers to these questions are crucial in determining the best outdoor lighting idea for you.

- Getting a professional or lighting consultant will depend on your outdoor lighting project goal. Consider getting the professional opinion and help of a lighting consultant, landscaper and a licensed electrician. An electrician in particular may not be able to add an aesthetic outdoor lighting idea but he can make sure that your fixtures and wiring are compliant with government electrical codes.

- Although you can still make great plans for your outdoor lighting idea even after your entire home structure and landscape are done it would make sense though to try to incorporate outdoor lighting plans with your entire residential plan if you are still about to build your home. This can help determine the proper placement of not just electrical receptacles but pipes and wires as well.

- Before you finalize your outdoor lighting idea, assess your property first. Aside from a possible theme, you should also look for the focal point or points of your property. What exactly do you want people to notice first when they enter. Is it the large tree in your yard, a pool, a statue, a fountain, a walkway or an entrance arch? Once you have determined this, you can pick the right outdoor lighting idea.

- Try experimenting and mixing elements. You shouldn't have just one kind of lighting for your outdoor property. Different areas require different kinds of lighting. Arches and entrances for example would look wonderful in uplights while statues would look better with downlights as would pathways, driveways and walkways. Patios and decks on the other hand would look wonderful with well designed lamps, lanterns, scones, table lighting and floor recessed lighting.

- Don't forget to include a toned-down and soothing effect for your lighting. In other words, direct glaring lights should be removed. Select lighting with soft or natural glow.

- Try going for portable and movable fixtures. This will allow you some flexibility when it comes to choosing lights for specific events or seasons. You may for example temporarily replace your lawn lamps with tiki torches if you are in the mood for a tropical themed gathering. You can easily do the replacement without necessarily removing your present wiring or socket placement.

Ponds Add Class and Beauty to a Backyard Garden

By Thomas Fryd

Backyard ponds are great additions to any landscaping garden. The pond immediately becomes a focal point for anyone who sees your yard. Your kids will love the pond, especially if there are fish.

Don't despair if you think that a pond will take way too much work to create. Of course, certain types of ponds with intricate rock waterfalls will be tough to make, but you can create simpler ones with much less effort. Even a simple water feature will add beauty to your garden. The sound and sight of the water is truly soothing. Simplicity is key. A pond that is too cluttered is takes away some of the relaxing effect. When designing a pond, you need to find a place for the water to fall to, so it does not sit still. Also, you need to create a reservoir for this water to collect.

Having the waterfall will add a relaxing sound and keep the flow moving. The reservoir will hold the water that falls. It must be deeper than two feet. Any reservoir over two feet is considered a swimming pool, so you need to make sure the local regulations allow for something like that.

You can build the sides of the reservoir with a fiberglass shell, or with rubber liners.

Adding fish and aquatic plants will make your pond seem more natural. A water lily is a common plant to add in ponds. Also, they look nice and they help to balance out the ecosystem.

You can cover the pond with landscaping gravel to help the aquatic plants live. This is possible because microorganisms hat release carbon dioxide live in the spaces between the gravel, and the plants need carbon dioxide to live.

Plants, in turn, release oxygen. The microorganisms and fish need the oxygen that is released from the plants. You can see clearly how the ecological cycle works. Adding plant life to your pond will also help it blend into the surroundings.

You will need a water supply constantly to maintain a pond, especially if you want fish. Before you create your pond, you should calculate how much water you will need. There is an easy way to calculate this. First, figure out the square footage of the pond. Then, multiply the area by depth (in feet), to get the volume in cubic feet. Next, multiply the result (cubic feet) by 7.5 to get the final answer of number of gallons of water that you will need for your pond.

If you don't mind a little bit extra work to make your pond look more interesting, you can create a step-by-step cascade of water from the pond to the reservoir. It will add a more interesting look to the pond and create a more tropical backyard. An electrical pump can keep the water circulating, but keep in mind that you will have to add more water from time to time because of evaporation.

If you cannot create a cascading waterfall, you can look into kits of bubblers or anything else to add a simple, functional, and appealing feature to your pond.

How to Grow Orchids Successfully

By Jared Mair

With the correct levels of light, water, temperature and humidity orchids can be grown successfully in most homes. The key decision is selecting an orchid that is suitable for your area's climate and conditions. There are over 25,000 different types of orchids so you are probably best to use the wealth of information found on the internet to determine this.

Sunshine

Try placing your orchid on a sunny windowsill which receives sunshine in the morning and afternoon, and which is away from drafts. If the sunlight is intense in this area think about moving the orchid about 20 inches from the window's glass.

Fluorescent lightning is a good alternative if you live in area which doesn't receive much sun. When using any sort of lighting, make sure you keep the light on for a minimum of 12 hours.

How much water for your orchid?

Watering is the most important ingredient in growing orchids. To determine the correct amount you need to consider the particular species that you are growing but a good rule is to water the orchid only when the soil it is potted in is dry. Water requirements for different species can range from every five days to everyday, so check before you commence watering.

Temperature

Again, what temperature your orchid needs varies from species to species. Most commercially available orchids need temperatures in the 60 degrees F mark and harder to grow species require 70 degrees F or more. You orchid doesn't like the cold. Be sure to keep it warm during cold nights.

The Right Humidity Level

Placing pots of orchid plants on decorative pebbles in a water-filled tray increases the humidity level to a desirable degree. You can also regular "mist" your plants with a spray bottle filled with distilled water but be careful not to soak them or you will risk fungal diseases developing.

Have You Considered Gardening Shoes?

By Dave Truman

Many homeowners have a garden- even if it is a small one. When gardening, we're concerned with doing what we must to keep it looking good. Have you ever gone out and found yourself knee deep in dirt and mud, and regretted not wearing some type of gardening shoe on your feet?

The chances are that if you are wearing normal shoes for the garden, then not only did you get unhappy feet but your shoes are completely ruined. The question is what can you wear for gardening? This is the time to check out gardening shoes. While they are not attractive looking shoes, they have the advantage of protecting your feet and legs from nature.

You'll have to consider what type of shoes you need. This depends on what type of work you'll be doing and the condition of the garden you're working in. There are two main types of footwear you can purchase. Your first choice is to purchase gardening shoes.

Gardening shoes are very easy to put on and remove. They are typically made from rubber, or some other waterproof material, as there are usually wet patches in your garden even on dry days. Waterproof shoes ensure that not only will your feet stay, but that your shoes will rinse clean easily.

You need to make sure that your new gardening shoes are made of sturdy material that will hold up to the mud that you can find in your garden. Sturdy shoes can prevent injury to your feet from branches, rose thorns, as well as from stray gardening tools.

The second type of gardening footwear is a type of gardening boot. These are a bit more of a hassle to put on and off, but they are very beneficial.

Like the gardening shoes, boots should be made of a durable material that can withstand sharp objects. You should also aim to buy waterproof boots so you also have that protection.

If you choose a boot that extends beyond your ankles, you also have the advantage of having your legs protected. If step into deep muck, you will be protected farther up your leg.

Depending on what type of work you do and what condition your garden is in, shoes or boots can protect your feet while you do your gardening. The pricks and prods of nature should not be able to break through your new garden footwear, so be sure to purchase your pair!

Tips for Raising Beginner Bonsai Trees

By Herb Daniels

Just what are Bonsai trees? Bonsai trees are small and beautiful copies of larger trees. To make them remain little, they will exist in shallow containers. Almost any species of tree is capable of becoming a bonsai.

Various local nurseries and some garden stores offer beginner bonsai trees for sale. These tiny specimens are just waiting for someone to coax them into a striking design. Before a bonsai receives training, it is vital that its owner recognizes what is about to take happen and just what is necessary for its success..

Pointers on Beginner Bonsai Trees

Some limbs of the trees will need to be cut off to create great-looking presentations. Beginner bonsai trees don't come in a box with a planned shape. One simply needs to check out the tree's attributes and then plan what it is capable of becoming. Its design will be up to the imagination of the new owners.

Many bonsai styles are available to choose from. Examples of the popular and yet uncomplicated ones are the slanting, cascade, windswept, formal upright, informal upright and the bunjin designs. Hobbyists who set out to produce works of art from beginner bonsai trees are able to choose any style they will enjoy.

When getting ready to buy a tree, see if a particular bonsai tree has a tendency toward a given shape. How do the truck and branches grow?

Make time to learn the art of pruning the roots and crown of your beginner bonsai trees. Pruning requires that you remove parts to encourage others to have further growth. This will bring about a strong and healthy bonsai tree. Moreover, this procedure needs to happen regularly.

Furthermore, you will need to replace the container of your bonsai approximately every one or two years to stimulate continued health and in order to access the roots for pruning. This will also encourage faster growth, which can mean more pruning will be needed.

The bonsai trees coming from subtropical or tropical locations can not survive in cold and shallow bonsai pots. They can freeze if they are left outside in very cold weather and it is a good idea to bring your beginner bonsai trees inside during the winter.

To prevent their soil from drying out too quickly, it is best to place beginner bonsai trees a distance away from inside heat sources such as radiators. Also, it is important to make sure the bonsai plants are not left too close to windows, because excess cold coming through the glass can stress a bonsai tree to the point of death. The more research you do to duplicate the conditions of a tree's origins, the easier it will be to promote its healthy survival for many years to come. You will be so happy that you followed these simple tips.

Inhale Dirt - You Can Exhale Green

By Kent Higgins

The soil that your plants grow in is as important to them as the air is to us. There are a huge variety of soils, ranging from types made of sand to clay. Some types are rich and fertile, others are barren. Certain desert sands will only grow a few types of plants, whereas rich, loamy soil, can grow almost anything.

The make-up of each type of soil can even be extremely different, but they all may work well. Each plant theoretically will grow in a certain perfect potting soil mix, but luckily, plants adjust to their environment pretty well. A combination of loam, sand, humus, fertilizer, bone meal, and peat moss will help your plants to grow really well.

You can mix your own potting soil by collecting the materials and mixing two parts loam to one part sand and one part humus. You should add one-half part cow manure and a little bit of bone meal. Do not try to mix this over carpeting, as you will probably spill some soil. The basement, garage, or outdoors is the best place to do it. You do not want to spill manure on your favorite rug! This is a messy job, but it's not a necessary one.

You can buy pre-packaged and mixed potting soil. You can get it at the supermarket or at the local garden supply store. This method is much cleaner and less time consuming. It is also guaranteed to be healthy because it is sterilized. There will be no pests, mites, or larvae in the soil. Mixing your own soil almost ensures that you will have pests. For most purposes, buying potting soil is best.

Some potted plants require special mixes. The African Violet needs extra humus for example, so you can buy a special mix especially for the plant. Just pass on this how to take care of house plants info - you can use the African Violet mix with ferns, begonias, and other tropical plants.

Humus comes from decayed grasses, leaves, weeds, and other organic matter. It is very rich and it hold moisture, so it is good to use with houseplants that have just been potted. You can buy humus alone to add to the other mixed soil you buy.

Things To Know About Planting And Transplanting Trees

By Andrew Kelly

Virtually any garden can be improved by the addition of trees. They are such wonderful plants and, although they can sometimes be a little expensive, they can often outlive a few generations of your family. However to ensure this happens you need to give them a good start and then look after them well. The hints and tips below, about planting and transplanting trees should put you firmly on the road to success.

The roots of trees play two incredibly important roles. Firstly the larger thicker roots ensure that it stays in place and, secondly, the smaller fibrous roots are those that provide all the water and nutrients (extracted from the soil around it) that trees need to grow well. It is therefore immensely important that you take great care not to damage any of the roots while planting or transplanting a tree.

One thing that is, surprisingly, often overlooked by gardeners is the size which a chosen tree can frow to when it reaches maturity. There are a great many different species of trees and most have different heights and spreads when fully mature. Even if a tree looks perfect in the nursery catalog you should always find out how big it can grow and ensure that it will always be a reasonable size for your garden.

Science is great, especially for the gardener, and today it is possible to buy any number of products to help us when planting and transplanting trees. Possibly the two most important, an incredible, are those products designed to reduce leaf drop and/or wilt. The other is the amazing formulae that are usually available in gel or powder form that are designed to help the trees roots grow quickly.

When buying trees it is very important that you inspect the roots to ensure that they are free from disease and are healthy. Always try to get one with a large root ball. By using the products mentioned above you can vastly improve the chances of your tree surviving by minimizing the amount of fluid loss (wilt-proof spray) and ensuring that the roots become established quickly (rooting hormone) and thus able to extract vital moisture and nutrients as early as possible.

When planting and transplanting trees it is important that you minimize stress. You should ensure that you have absolutely everything you will need is close by so that your trees are planted as quickly as possible. Some things need to be sorted well in advance of the task. One of these things is the need for plenty of clean water. This should really be rainwater but if you are unable to collect sufficient you can use tap water which has been allowed to stand for at least an hour to ensure any chlorine has completely evaporated away.

Finally you can get your hands dirty. Dig a hole about one foot wider, in all direction, than the root ball. Loosen the ground at the bottom with a pitchfork and mix in some well rotted organic matter such as peat. You can also add a little bone meal but mix it in well. Fresh manure can be used at a pinch but, because it could burn the roots as it rots, it is very important that you only use a small amount and, again, mix it in well.

Now for the final steps. Flood the hole and let all the water drain away and you are ready to add your tree. Place the tree in the middle of the hole and fill it, roughly, two thirds full with good quality loam. Flood it and allow it to drain once more and then top up with more soil. Check with a trowel to make sure there are no air pockets and that it done. By following the instructions here your trees will soon be growing nicely.

Tips When Designing A Backyard Garden!

By Kent Higgins

It is quite easy to plan a backyard garden. For your landscape design, you can come up with a variety of ideas by carrying out a few simple steps. You can find out more information about these steps below.

1.) Survey your current backyard area. Write down the elements that are already present, such as a big tree in the middle, a large flat space, a fence on one side, etc.

2.) Next, you should write down elements that you definitely want to add. These could be things like a swimming pool, pond, waterfall, path, patio, sculptures, deck, garden, grass, or plants.

3.) After that, look at your backyard through the windows from inside your home. The areas that you can see are the most important -- the hotspots. You'll want these areas to look especially nice.

4.) Once you figure out the hotspots, look at the list of required elements from step two. Now is the time to double check that list, and then get the costs for the items. You can find the costs by calling retailers or by going to stores to price out different options. There will likely be plenty of different price points based on quality. You may be able to get quantity discounts for certain things you buy.

Don't forget to add the costs of installing the landscaping. You will either need to hire landscaping contractors, or do the labor yourself, which still isn't free since it takes up your valuable time and effort. If you do not have this time, the contractors will do a great job at laying out and building your landscape based on the plan that you give them.

If you have a specific budget to stick to, you may have to eliminate some of the less important elements that you'd like to add, or find other ways to save money. You can save some of those idea and small landscaping plans for a later time when the budget allows. It is good to recognize money as a limiting factor early. It will save you design time and greater disappointment later.

5.) Once you have the items you want and their costs, you can begin to sketch out how you'll want the yard to look with the items in it. This should show you what the items will look like in certain locations, and it will give you an idea of whether or not they will look good. Remember to consider the hotspots from step 3. These are great spots for things like fountains.

Some things may not be practical in certain locations though. Fountains or anything involving electricity will be difficult and expensive to install far from your home. The key is to be creative and cost effective at the same time. You should not create just one plan. By making multiple plans, you will get a better feeling of what you will be happiest with. You can also ask family for advise by showing them multiple plans. Most likely, you will end up combining a couple plans into one final plan.

6.) Once you choose a final plan, calculate the total cost from the data you collected in step 4.

7.) Finalize your plan. Hopefully it is clear, easy to create, cost effective, easy to maintain, and makes you happy.

8.) If you are not creating this yourself, give the design to a landscape contractor. If you are doing it yourself, have fun!

Solar Powered - Low Voltage Lighting Efficient Technology

By Thomas Fryd

The popularity of using outdoor lighting to show off one's home or landscape at night is growing. Besides the benefit of looking nice, the lights also serve the purpose of increasing safety. Lights will help you avoid tripping, while also deterring dangerous individuals from coming around your home. You can read some myths and truths about outdoor lighting here:

Myth: If you don't have expertise with electricity, low voltage lights can be dangerous to install.

Truth: Low voltage lights are extremely safe. Most of these systems run on only 12 volts, so you do not need to be an electricity expert. The 12 volts of power is harmless even if you were to touch an exposed wire. No matter what your experience level, you should be able to install a low voltage system in an hour or less.

Myth: It takes hundreds of dollars to have outdoor lighting.

Truth: A basic Malibu low voltage lighting system can be purchased for under $50. The lights look great, and have exceptional quality and durability. The lights will last for years, and you can add lights over time as your are ready to expand. If you want a full lighting system right away, it is possible to light your pathways, garden, deck, and patio for about $150. The safety and style that the lights will add is well worth it.

Myth: Solar powered lights require constant sunlight to work properly.

Truth: At night, the lights will be able to stay on for as long as the sensors were in sunlight during the day. If you need lights to stay on longer than that, solar power may not be the best option. It works well for many situations though, as long as you can provide the sensors with adequate sunlight.

Myth: It's best to use either low voltage or solar lights, but not both.

Truth: It is fine to mix one kind of light with another. Some areas need brighter lights, where the low voltage lights would excel, whereas areas that do not need as much lighting power would work great with solar powered lights.

Myth: It takes hours of hard work or it is necessary to hire a professional to install an outdoor lighting system.

Truth: Installing solar powered LED landscape lighting is one of the simplest landscaping jobs that there is. Six to Eight lights can be installed in under an hour. You do not have to worry about dangers with low voltage lights. The only tool you will need is s screwdriver.

Myth: There are only simple, boring styles of low voltage and solar powered lights available.

Truth: There are dozens of interesting Malibu fixture styles available in different finishes, designs, and colors.

Myth: Solar powered lights still don't work well, even after recent advancements.

Truth: Malibu solar accent lights are extremely effective. They have solar collection panels that absorb energy from the sun during the day and convert it into electricity to be used at night. They work well, are easy to install, and save you money on your electricity bill.

Myth: Your energy bill will rise significantly when you use low voltage lights.

Truth: A low voltage lighting system is not using a typical 120 volt current. It is only using 12 volts, so the power usage is low. Mixing low voltage lights and solar lights will definitely lower your energy bill.

Lawn Sprinklers - The Poor Form of Irrigation

By Thomas Fryd

We've all heard the saying "you don't know what you've got till it's gone". It's often the simple things that are overlooked until it's too late - things like water. If there is a drought, your landscape and garden will surely feel the effects. There are some things you can do conserve water during or before a drought to help.

First of all, you can mulch your plants. If you've already done this, you're ahead of the game. Mulch will reduce water evaporation in the soil. Plastic mulch is fine for this purpose, but organic mulch will have the added benefit of adding organic material to the soil.

Mulch can go all around your plants in the flower beds, and between rows in a vegetable garden. You should know that it makes it tougher for water to get to the roots as well though.

Since you have a limited supply of water, you should make sure as much of it gets to the roots as possible.

Lawn Sprinklers, for example, are a poor form of irrigation because much of the water is waste on the leaves and other obstructions before reaching the ground. Watering the base of the plants with a slow, gentle, soaking stream of water will be much more efficient.

A drip or trickle irrigation system is a great option. They are inexpensive and easy to install and use. They apply small amounts of water directly to the base of each plant. There will be no wasted water at all using this method.

Make sure you know which of your plants is built to withstand the climate during a drought. You should use the small amount of water you have to keep the weaker plants alive. Plants that are mature and native to the area should survive the drought on their own, this is plain old good lawn care and landscaping advice.

To limit evaporation you should water early in the morning. This will also give plants moisture to deal with the heat of the day ahead of them.

One last tip to deal with drought conditions is to collect any water you can from downspouts when it rains. You'd be surprised how much water your roof catches. Get a large barrel to store the water in to use when needed.

How To Landscape A Model Railroad

By Bill Murphy

One of the more fun aspects of model railroading is planning and executing the scenery and landscaping that your track and engines will meander through " for some it is almost like playing God in that you can decide and create on any scene you desire.

From fanciful hobbit themes, alien worlds or realistic recreations there is nothing that you cannot create and display, all it takes is a plan, some materials, a little skill and some time.

First and foremost you need a plan or at least a concept.

- Do you want to duplicate an existing landscape? - Do you want a faithful historical recreation of a place now lost in time? - Are you more inclined to creating a never-before seen or unlikely scenario to wow the masses?

Making a choice on one theme for your layout and staying true to that theme is perhaps the most important keys to success. If you change your methods and style in the middle of your landscape the result will be inconsistencies that will detract from the overall impression you are trying to form.

Ideally those you invite to view your work will see a delightful scene and the harder they look the more detail enforcing that scene they will find. Nothing is more enjoyable then hearing those delighted squeals as a viewer notices ever more subtle details as they come closer and closer and the key to that is consistency.

Once you have a plan for the theme you need to decide on track placement and terrain. Many modelers create the terrain and then try to force the track to follow through that, just as occurs in real life " but one of the advantages of modeling vs. real life is that you can consider all aspects and requirements up front. If you know you will have a bend or a switch at certain points why design rough terrain that you will then try to overcome with 'grading' in your models at those points?

Next you should collect your materials " some items you can find around the house, others you may wish to purchase from dealers such as www.oakridgehobbies.com and www.jttmicroscale.com or your local hobby shop but always stay true to your plan. Just because you find an amazing little miniature you long to use doesn't mean it belongs in this model! Common materials you will need include:

1. Tables or Stands 2. Plywood (preferably outdoor grade) for base if using stands 3. Glues 4. Twigs, 'dirt' gravel, crushed or powdered stones, herbs etc. for plants and groundcover 5. Paints of various kinds for touch-up, covering the base and backgrounds etc. 6. Poster board, wax paper, aluminum foil, tissues etc. for texturing and shaping 7. Styrofoam blocks and sheets for shaping

Optional items you may wish to use include:

8. Plaster of Paris and / or fiberglass 9. Talcum powder, pepper and salt, cayenne pepper " for texturing and colorants 10. Corkboard and cork 'paper' 11. Roof repair tar (for road surfaces etc.) 12. Paintable caulks and adhesives for securing items in place

By Dave Truman

Buying a greenhouse kit can be a major purchase, so you want to make sure you have the right kit that will fit your needs. In this article, I will go through the most important aspects of buying a greenhouse kit and what you should be looking for when deciding what kind of green house kit you need.

How to Choose the Right Sized Greenhouse Kit

This will depend on how much space you have for a greenhouse kit, and what you want to grow in it. If you are just going to be growing herbs in your kit, you can probably go for a smaller size. If you want to grow flowers, you should be looking for a small to medium sized kit. If you want to grow vegetables (depending on what kinds), you probably want a larger kit.

You also want to think about whether you want a kit that will be staying in the same place all of the time, or if you want it to be portable. If you get one made out of wood, it will need a lot more care than one that does not require as much maintenance. Also, what type of covering do you want on your kit? You can choose from tempered glass or polycarbonate.

Green House Kit Prices

Greenhouse kits can range from $50 - $6,000, depending on what size and type you choose. The best part about buying a greenhouse kit is that you can build it yourself so you dont have to pay someone else to build it. You want to make sure you have a large enough greenhouse so that the plants have enough room to grow. So plan ahead on what size would be best for you and your needs.

Green House Kit Reliability

A polycarbonate covering is one of the best coverings to choose from. For the frame, a PVC and metal tubing is the most affordable option. Steel and aluminum is more expensive, but more resilient as well. When it comes to all of the factors of a greenhouse of your choice, including how long it will last, how it looks and the best energy efficiency, a greenhouse kit built from natural cypress is the best choice.

Green House Kit Guarantee

A lot of companies that sell greenhouse kits offer some guarantees that you should look for. One of them is a lowest price guarantee. Usually, with this guarantee, you will find that the company does have the lowest prices available for a greenhouse. However, in this guarantee you should be able to get some of your money back if you find the same greenhouse kit for a lower price somewhere else. This guarantee is usually good for 7 " 30 days or more.

You should also look for kits that come with some type of warranty that will cover the costs of damage to your greenhouse kit for at least up to one year. Some companies offer a warranty for up to twenty years! You should look for a warranty that includes any damage, breakage, and/or defects.

Have fun searching for the best greenhouse kit that will suit your needs and your budget.

19th Century Technology Still Popular with Plants

By Keith Markensen

Although there are endless possibilities of arrangements of indoor houseplants, the following three are the most commonly used:

1. Individual pots. You can set up and move them very easily, changing the look of your home anytime.

2. A tray or box. You can arrange your plants in a tray or box near a window, growing a number of plants in the same area.

3. Terrariums. These are sealed containers that hold plants. They create moisture on their own through condensation.

The easiest method is with individual pots, so you should choose this if you are just learning. You can take care of each plant individually this way, and you can give it specifically what it needs. You will likely have a much higher success rate than with the other methods. You can be very creative as well, choosing interesting pots and locations for the pots.

It is great to be able to move the potted plants around whenever you want. For example, some plants need direct light to grow well, but once they flower, you can move them to wherever you like to decorate, even if the room is not well lit. You just have to remember to take them back to the window to get sun before leaving them away from it too long. Growing houseplants in pots is simple and cheap.

If you are a more experienced gardener, you can make a beautiful tray arrangement. You can choose a variety of plant species, put them in individual pots, but all in one box or tray. You can have a large, intricate box with flowers by a window or out on a patio, or you can have a little garden. There are a lot of possibilities, but if you want to move the plants around, they all have to go at once. If you choose the plants wisely, you can have different flowers blooming for the whole year.

The problems with trays or boxes is that all of the plants receive the same environmental conditions. They will receive the same sunlight, humidity, temperature, and water. Many plants can live together just fine, but a cactus can't live with a water lily. Make sure you choose compatible plants.

The third arrangement method for your houseplants is a terrarium, or Wardian case. It is very unique. In the 1800's, Nathanial Ward of England accidentally discovered that wood plants grow well on their own if they are in a sealed container. You can use almost any glass container to grow things like moss, ferns, or lichens.

The negative aspects of terrariums is that not many types of plants can grow in them and the enclosure doesn't allow the beauty to be seen as easily.

The third planting arrangement mentioned, terrariums or Wardian cases, is a completely different approach to house-plant culture.

Back in the middle of the 19th century an English botanist by the name of Nathaniel Ward discovered by mistake that many wood plants will grow and prosper with little or no care if kept in a sealed container. Terrariums growing moss, ferns and lichens can provide a woodland in miniature for your home, and almost any glass container can be used, from a fish bowl to a cocktail glass. There is not just one method for houseplant care. The only restrictions are the resiliency of the plants and your imagination. Houseplants can liven up your home for you and your guests.

Send Easter Gifts

Meaning of Easter Gifts
by Isis K. Nouvelle

Jesus Christ was crucified and resurrected, according to the
Bible and Christian belief, and Easter is the day we
celebrate his resurrection. Jesus Christ was nailed to the
cross and died on Good Friday. He was resurrected three days
later on Easter Sunday. Easter also traditionally signifies
the end of Lent, which begins on Ash Wednesday, and is a
period of atonement prior to the celebration of Easter.

Eggs have been the most common Easter gift over the years
and are the most recognizable Easter symbol. They symbolize
a birth and a new life. Easter eggs have always been
decorated with beautiful colors and used for Easter games.
They have also been given as gifts.

Our family and friends receive chocolate eggs and bunnies as
an Easter gift, usually every year. Since this holiday only
happens annually, everyone also sits around the table and
eats eggs in a joyous occasion. This tradition also
frequently results in giving presents to share happiness,
such as egg-shaped sweets.

You can give your child a soft stuffed bunny that she can
sleep with at night. A large, cuddly bunny makes a great
gift for an adult as well. It says both "I love you" and
"Happy Easter" to your loved one in a special way.

Plants can also be used for the same things. Instead of
sending some cut roses, you can send spring flowers planted
in pots. Some great choices are classic easter lilies,
tulips, crocuses, hyacinths, or even some potted grass.
Plants can make homes feel happier and more in tune with
nature.

The is the blossom that is most frequently
brought as a present at Easter time. It has both a pleasing
shape and a pleasant scent. Choose one that looks good on
all sides. You want one which has proper proportions and is
not overly low or overly high. Florists offer lovely
blossoms during this season, and delivery is invariably
included. They arrive boxed, with a custom gift card and a
sheet that tells the recipient how to arrange and care for
them.

Attractive, Adaptable Great Houseplants - We Call Them Palms

By Keith Markensen

Palm trees are not just for the tropics. There are varieties that can tolerate mild to cold climates quite well. They are easy to care for, attractive, and adaptable. They make great houseplants.

If you are looking to create shade inside your home for smaller plants, the King Palm is a great option. They are commonly known to be an outdoor palm, but they make great indoor palms as well. You can protect the smaller plants from the hot direct sunlight through the windows with a King Palm. After a few years, you may have to move it outside, though, because they grow tall rather quickly.

Majesty palms also live well outdoors, and also grow pretty quickly (ten feet in ten years). Queen palms grow too quickly to live indoors for log. They can get to 25 feet in as little as seven years...likely much taller than your ceiling.

If you live in a cold climate and want to bring a little of the tropics home it is possible. Dozens of species can handle temperatures around freezing or below. The Date Palm, for example, can live in temperatures down to 18 degrees F. The Windmill Palm is the most cold resistant plant, being able to handle temperatures down to 5 degrees F.

Because of this, you can grow the plants outdoors or on a patio or covered porch without having any problems.

The type of soil that you grow the palm in is very important. Adding mycorrhizal fungi will help the health of your plant. They also need special fertilizer. The required fertilizer is a slow release fertilizer with a special NPK ratio. The ratio should be 3-1-3 or 15-5-15. Correct amounts of the micro-nutrients magnesium, manganese and calcium need to be added as well.

You should check the salt level in the soil to make sure there is not salt buildup. Flushing the water a few times until you get the proper salt reading will fix the problem.

With proper care many indoor palm varieties can last a long time on a little bit of water. They are used to this in nature during the dry season. They need good soakings of water sometimes though equivalent to the rainy season in the tropics.

Finally, you need to make sure the pot is large enough to support the plants and to avoid root bound. Also, the pot needs to have adequate drainage.

Secrets Of Growing Amazing Heirloom Tomatoes

By Dave Truman

Any tomato lover would probably agree that there is nothing finer than a nice, ripe home-grown tomato in your mouth. There is no comparing the rich, sweet, oh-so-plump goodness that is the tomatoes you can grow on the vine at home with just a little bit of love and care to the rough and tough, bland and sometimes overly processed vegetable in the produce aisle at the local grocery store.

Whether you like to enjoy your tomatoes straight off the vine or specially prepared with a dish in the kitchen, the different varieties of delicious heirloom tomatoes are worth waiting for. Sure, instant gratification is not a big thing when it comes to tomatoes. You go to the grocery store and bag up a couple of the reddest tomatoes in the produce aisle and bring them home only to find them still bland, or too soft.

Does this sound like a problem you have ever had with your grocery store tomatoes? Good, quality heirloom tomato plants in your garden could make this predicament a thing of the past.

Heirloom tomatoes are one of the most popular varieties of tomato out there. If you are looking to grow tomatoes of your own, check out one of the hundreds of varieties of heirloom tomatoes there are for you to choose from. Heirloom tomatoes are an older variety of tomatoes that come from a plant that was pollinated openly by hybrids fifty or more years go. These tomatoes come in a real variety, from the small purplish-colored black cherry tomato to large red tomatoes.

It isnt hard to grow a delicious garden of heirloom tomatoes, but it does take some basic gardening skills to grow the perfect tomatoes. You have to buy the seed specially. Heirloom seeds are not hard to find but they are separate from the regular variety of tomato seeds that you can pick up casually at the register, so be aware of the difference.

Growing delicious heirloom tomatoes isnt hard"if you know what youre doing as far as gardening goes. Heirloom tomatoes are naturally delicious"especially to a tomato lover, and they are pretty hard to destroy in the gardening department. It is important to start off with the right seed, and that is the most control that you will really have over your heirloom tomatoes, outside of regular maintenance such as water and pruning/weeding care.

Other than that, growing heirloom tomatoes is not a difficult thing to do at all. With the proper water, sunlight, and a soil bed that is adequate in nutrients growing great tomatoes will be easy.

If you are a true tomato connoisseur, you know the difference between a produce aisle tomato and the real thing, and you can understand why the difference between the two of these makes a difference. Heirloom tomatoes are the highest in quality and taste, and there is nothing better than homegrown tomatoes. Combine the two for an ultimately pleasurable tomato-growing (not to mention tomato eating) experience!

5 Model Train Accessories All Railroads Should Have

By Dave Truman

Many people's first introduction to model railroading is with a simple circle or oval on a sheet of plywood. No scenery, no landscaping and maybe not even any buildings or vehicles.

It doesn't take long, however, to get the urge to start adding accessories to the railroad to make it more realistic. For many people, this become a lifelong endeavor, and can grow to very large proportions.

Every layout is different and everyone has their own favorite accessories, but the following 5 items are some of the most common accessories that add a level of realism and interest to your model railroad.

1. Train Station

This is one of the first buildings most people add to their layout. It gives the railroad a starting and ending point and often serves as the basis for an entire town or city to be built up around it.

2. Lighting

There are many forms of lighting for railroads. There can be background lighting to give a backdrop a degree of realism or street lights to add to the ambiance of a city. These may be strictly for decoration, or they may actually light up at night to give the streets a realistic glow.

3. Rail Cars

The locomotive usually gets the most attention when setting up a model railroad, but there are many choices for railcars as well.

4. People and Animals

A city or railyard isn't complete without people as part of the design. And if your layout travels through mountains or countryside, animals add a touch of realism to the design.

5. Landscaping

There are many options for landscaping a railroad. You can add things like grass, trees, lakes or rivers alongside the track. Or you can get a little more in depth and add hills and valleys for your train to travel through, and tunnels through the mountains.

Garden Show Off - Solar Outdoor Lights Offer Highlights

By Thomas Fryd

Careful, creative landscaping can make your home or business stand out in a positive way from surrounding areas. Landscaping all by itself can be a simple, attractive enhancement to any business, home or structure. It will only be visible during the daylight hours though. This is a very short time in the winter especially.

By adding landscape lighting, you will be able to show off your landscape in the evenings and at night to show the elegance of your home, business, and plants. Plants, trees and palms can be the draw attention at night when spotlighted or flooded with light. There are plenty of options for dramatic lighting. The following information will explain just some of the options.

To mark a pathway, a couple options are embedded lights or small low voltage landscape garden lights. You can spotlight small plants and light large plants with a floodlight. Larger ponds or water features can be lit with floodlights. The borders of the bond can be lit much like the edge of a pathway.

Using colored lights can create interesting moods in your landscape. You can choose colors to remain all the time, or have alternating colors on a loop. You'd be surprised how different your plants will look under different color lights.

You don't have to only light the base of trees and bushes. Lighting the top of them will showcase their full beauty. You can even light things with strobes, but too much of this could be distracting.

You can power your lights with either a typical electric circuit or by the sun with solar powered outdoor lighting. You can use low voltage power or higher. (12 or 120 volts). Solar power will work very well if you live in a sunny areas like the southern states or southwest. You will be underpowered if you live somewhere that is often overcast.

There is not any one correct or perfect way to light a landscape. Make your own rules and get creative as you highlight the areas that you feel are the most important.

green tomato seeds gardening

By Tracy Ballisager

Many people do not know that tomatoes come in a variety of different colors. Tomatoes not only come in the typical red and green colors, they also come in purple, black, pink, orange, white, yellow, and variegated. In fact, green tomatoes are not always indicative to tomatoes that are not quite ripe. There are a couple different varieties of green tomatoes, such as Green Zebra, which is a green striped tomato, as well Aunt Ruby's German Green tomato, which is a green tomato with a pink blush. Green tomatoes are known for their mild, spicy flavor.

If you are looking for those traditional fried green tomatoes, then you will probably want to stick with using unripened fruit. This is simply because tomatoes that are ripe will not stand up to the heat from the skillet. You can obtain green tomato seeds from a variety of different seed companies. You can simply do a search online and it will bring up countless numbers of places where the seeds can be purchased. In many cases, it is hard to find green tomatoes seedlings in the market. Therefore, you best bet is to start growing them from your own seeds. After you have received your seeds, you will want to organize an indoor space for the seedbed.

Green tomato seeds should be planted 6 to 8week. Remember to first separate your seed, as they stick together during the process of packing.plant as many seed as you can, since most of them may not germinate.

Green tomato seeds grow just like any other tomato seeds. Plant them about " deep in either a seed flat or in small pots. Water them lightly. You'll want to keep them moist but not wet. You may find a mister works well. Just give them a misting whenever they need it. If you cover the pots with a plastic hood or some plastic wrap, it will help keep the moisture in. Tomato seeds germinate best if the soil is at 75 F to 90 F. If you start a lot of plants from seed, you may want to invest in a heating mat made for germinating seeds.

When the seeds has sprout, adjust the temperature slightly to 60⁰F and 70⁰F.You need also to expose the seedling to sufficient light, this will stop them from getting leggy.Put your tomato on the window facing south.if you donot have the south window , invest in a spectrum fluorescent light and put it inches bove the pot

After the plant has sprouted a second or third set of true leaves, which resembles actual tomato leaves, you will need to transplant them in a pot that is approximately 4". This way, the plants will have plenty of room to grow.

Before you transplant your little green tomatoes outdoors, harden them off. To accomplish this, set them outdoors during the day when it is warm, and bring them in after a few hours for about a week. The next week, extend the time they are outdoors, until eventually they are outdoors all the time. At night they may need to be in a protected spot.

Once the tomatoes are used to the temperatures outside, plant them in the garden. Be sure to put tomato cages or other supports around the plants if they are a variety that grows tall.

Leaves - The House Plant Starter Kit

By Thomas Fryd

You can propagate plants in multiple different ways, including leaf cuttings, seeds, etc. You can use leaf cuttings to propagate African violets and Gloxinia. Leaf cutting is when you cut the leaf where it joins the stem. You then put the leaf in a starting mixture to allow it to grow. Roots will begin to grow from the stem within a few weeks. Once the roots start to grow, you can transplant the new plant into regular potting soil.

The long, pointed foliage of the Sansevieria can also be propagated by leaf cuttings. It is done slightly differently though. You should cut the leaves into four-inch sections and set them in the starting mixture right side up. Roots will come out of the bottom where you cut.

The Rex Begonia requires a separate technique for leaf cutting propagation. You should cut across the thick veins on the underside of the leaves with a razor. The cut leaves should then be placed face up in he starting mixture. You need to make sure the leaf has good contact with the soil, so toothpicks or pins should be used.

Not only will creating new houseplants from leaf cuttings create new healthy plants, but it will actually be good for the plants that the cuttings come from as well. Pinching, pruning, and cutting back plants will grow more evenly. They will grow tall and uneven with a lack of foliage low on the plant if you do nothing to prune the plant. You want the plants to be full and even throughout the entire plant. They should look more like bushes than trees. You have to prune vines and trailers as well to avoid uneven growth.

Don't worry about cutting off the center of a healthy young plant, or a branch that is just about to flower. It will be tough to convince yourself to do it because it goes against what you would naturally think, but it will help the plant in the long run and it is a part of growing African violets from leaves. You must prune them if they will grow into nice looking plants. You want to prune so the plant can use that energy to grow in other ways.

Growing an indoor garden yourself is extremely satisfying. Growing house plants yourself is very inexpensive and the time you spend working on it is very worthwhile and fun.

House Plants - Uplifting the Human Spirit

By Keith Markensen

Plant life has been proven to be uplifting to the human health and spirit. The plants clean toxins out of the air, and are pleasant to look at. It is also fulfilling to take care of a living thing.

There are some things you must know to be able to take care of potted plants. The following article will explain some of those things.

You need to do plenty of research on which types of plants will naturally grow well in the conditions your home will provide. If you try to grow something that is out of place in that environment, you are asking for failure. It helps to choose plants that do not need much fertilizer or watering. This will make our job easier.

Spider plants and cacti are extremely easy to take care of. If you choose these, and some more exotic varieties that require more care, you should be able to have everything survive. Choosing some simple varieties will give you the time to care for the more complex ones.

After you choose the correct plants, you need to find the right size pots for them. It the pot is too small, the roots will become root bound and your plant could die. Too big of a pot is not good either.

The soil needs to have the correct amount of nutrients and moisture. Also, you need to provide the correct amount of sunlight. Not too little, but not too much. Too little is bad because plants need sunlight to grow. Too much, however, can burn the leaves or harm the roots by overheating the soil. The correct amount of these things will vary slightly based upon the species of plant.

Besides these health considerations, you also want to plants to look good. So, not only is the size of the pot important for the growth of your plant, but the color and style of the pot is important as well. Mixing the look of the plant with that of the pot can be a very creative venture that can either make you home look great or tacky. Careful choice is important.

For example, in bright, open corners of your home, a large plant will look great. It can be planted in a medium sized pot on a tall stand. A Sansevieria is one of the plants that would look nice here. Another option for this location is a palm. You can then place smaller plants that need shade beneath the shelter of the palm.

No matter what pots you choose the first time around, you should keep in mind that you will probably have to repot in a couple years. The plants will outgrow the pot, and it is unhealthy to keep a plant in a pot that is too small.

To avoid having to repot every plant at once, you should grow some plants from seeds or cuttings, while buying others that are young, and some that are mature. Also, you should buy some species that grow quickly and some that grow slow. You may have to repot a couple plants each year this way, instead of having the huge task of repotting everything at once. Repotting is all a part of care and maintenance of indoor houseplants. Some plants can be repotted in the spring, and others in the fall. You can use pots from larger plants to plant the smaller ones that have now grown large enough for the large pots. This will keep you from needing to buy all new pots.

A separate advantage to this variety in plants is that you will have some plants flowering in the spring, others in the summer, and some in the fall. It will add color and pleasant scents to your home for more of the year--probably up to 6-8 months.

With proper planning, you will not have to exert a lot of time and effort to have a successful home garden.

Houseplants Sad Looking from Disease or Neglect?

By Kent Higgins

Prevention is the best medicine. Whether you are talking about people or plants, preventing diseases is much easier than diagnosing and curing them. There are plenty of pests that can harm your plants, but it is more common for a plant to die because of lack of proper care than from pests or disease directly. Following the guidelines below will help you to succeed as an indoor gardener. You will learn how to keep your plants healthy.

Neglecting one's plants is the most common reason for plant deaths. In order to live and thrive, plants need watering, occasional pruning, light (direct or indirect depending on the variety), fertilization, and some type of media - soil, rock or even water. Each plant is built to thrive in a specific environment, which certain temperature, humidity, and sunlight requirements.

Ignoring these requirements will be fatal to your plants. Although plants need care, they can fend for themselves rather well too. This means that you do not have to look after your plants every day, but you do need to do your best to keep conditions favorable in general.

If you take the time to look at the environment you plan on placing your house plants and then matching the plant to ones who will do well in those conditions you will stand a much better chance for success.

Attempting to grow your houseplants in an environment that is unnatural for the species is the second major reason for failure. Some plants, such as Lantana or Morning Glory, need immense sunlight, whereas plants like the African violet can thrive with only indirect sunlight all year long. In fact, the African violet is a great plant to learn about plant care. Their care is fairly easy, they require limited space and you can enjoy flowers all year.

Most indoor plants can adapt quite well to a variety of conditions. It is possible, in the same home, to grow a tropical fern from the rainforest and a desert cactus. If you care for your plants correctly and give some thought to where you place them in your home, you should be successful.

Pathways and Walkways - Plan Them Naturally

By Thomas Fryd

Walkways are very important to your garden. Not only do they create a clear path for you or guests to walk through and admire the plants, but paths are necessary to give you access to remote areas of your garden to water and care for the plants. Plants would easily be trampled without a walkway.

In addition to the function of the walkway, it can also add a bit of style to your garden in how it looks. The shape of the landscape path, as well as the finishing material, can make the walkway very beautiful and unique. The most common types of finishing materials for walkways are interlocking concrete blocks and bricks. Before you create the walkway, you should lay gravel down first. After that, you can lay the blocks or bricks down with a mallet.

It is helpful to plan the walkway first with a drawing. You should map our where the plants are and figure out the best path for the walkway so you can reach the sections that are difficult to get to. To add definition to the walkway, you can plant flowers or install lights to line the edge of the path. Lights will allow you to work or enjoy your garden late into the evening, at night, or early in the morning. You do not want rain water to accumulate on the walkway, so the path should slope one way. Sitting water will bring mosquitoes and make walking difficult.

Small benches along the walkway can give you a place to sit and rest while working on the garden, or just sit and admire the beauty of your garden.

Bringing desirable wildlife to your garden is quite simple. Using plants that flower or bear fruit is a good start. Birds and butterflies will be attracted to the flowers and fruit. Adding a bird feeder or a birdbath should keep the animals coming back regularly.

To keep the birds protected from potential predators, the bird bath and bird feeder should be raised several feet from the ground. The raised birdbath should be secured to a post so the bird does not cause it to fall over. Consider making some unique looks for the birdbaths with landscape brick designs in the backyard.

An additional way to create a sanctuary for birds is to plant dense hedges. The birds will love this area to create their nests, assuring you that they will return for a long time.

If there is wildlife visiting your garden, you must use only non-toxic pesticides, if you use any at all. Keeping the bird feeder and bath clean will also help to prevent the birds from getting diseases from dirty water.

Funeral Flower Etiquette

There are many types of occurrences that all families hope will never come to pass, but yet they often still do and bring shattering results to both individuals and families. One example of this type of event would be the sudden, unexpected passing of a loved one, this event often brings sadness, confusion, and lack of peace to those associated with the person. There is nothing more permanent than death, and it can be a very difficult situation for loved ones to accept when the person is no longer there to hold and talk to.

Nobody except the family members of the deceased know how agonized they are with the demise of their loved one. How difficult it is for them to see their beloved being taken away for cremation? It is really very painful for the onlookers also to see the grieving family wailing next to the dead person in a coffin.

In the difficult times that they face it is very important for you to express condolences to the grieving family. These truly expressed condolences can be a great benefit to helping the family feel better. Families in loss often express their grieving through sorrow, and there are many ways by which you can express your good wishes to them in their trying times.

One good way of showing sympathy for them is to give a gift of sympathy flowers. Flowers are a long standing symbol of both happiness and sorrow. They have a unique way of expressing these emotions without the use of words flowers are often able to express emotions more fully than words. It can often be quite difficult to express sympathy to a grieving loved one through words, but flowers make it simpler.

In a difficult situation of this kind, one can provide much-needed moral and emotional support to the bereaved family by giving them, for example, a bouquet of white lilies, roses, or other beautiful floral arrangements. A wide variety of other funeral flowers can be found at your local florist, arrangements that can help to alleviate in some small way the pain of the departed person's loved ones.

You can choose a funeral wreath or one of the many other alternatives that fall under the heading of sympathy gifts. Internet florists and gift shops carry wide assortments of funeral wreaths and other presents. You can even choose to give the relatives of the deceased a lovely basket of cookies or candies with the phrase "With Sympathy" printed on each of them.

To conclude, the sudden passing of a loved one, for instance, is one such situation that stresses the happiness and mental peace of all those who were/are associated to that person. Presenting them with sympathy flowers, for instance, is one good way of expressing your sympathy. You can choose a funeral wreath or one of the many other alternatives that fall under the heading of sympathy gifts. There are a wide variety of c funeral flowers to choose from at a respected florist, as well.

Here's some my preferred online sites where I normally shop for quality and sympathy gifts. They get my highest ratings for customer service and professionalism.

Unique Housewarming Gifts

Unique Housewarming Presents
by Cindy Vicenza

Your online shops can make dreams come true. When you buy a new home, friends and relatives can express their delight and best wishes with housewarming gifts from your favorite florists. Decorate the new home with freshly arranged, beautiful flowers.

It is always best to buy fresh flowers. Avoid lower cost flowers from grocery stores or gas stations. Flowers with dried leaves or wilted flowers are past their prime because they sit in refrigeration longer than recommended. Buy from a reputable flower shop and you will always make a wise purchase.

An advantage of buying flowers from the same online flower shops is that they can maintain a record of your purchases, including various details like arrangement styles, among others. The list gradually brings out your favorite choices and you can also pick arrangements that suit varying events and seasonal availability.

Nowadays, local florists are using national chains, 800 numbers and internet sites to provide nationwide service to customers. Floral arrangements can be ordered from virtually anywhere simply by contacting a national service. From there, the local shop is contacted, takes the order, makes the arrangement and delivers it to your home or office.

By giving new home owners an attractive flower arrangement, real estate agents offer their own contribution to the special moment of purchasing a home. The flowers might be presented in a dish, basket, or bowl. No matter how they are presented, this thoughtful gift serves not only to brighten the new home but also to symbolize the professional relationship between the home purchaser and the real estate agent.

In a new home, flowers can be an easy way to accent and decorate most rooms. For example, a dining room can have a formal setting in a tall vase and be placed in the center of the table. Smaller floral arrangements make beautiful accents when placed on a window sill or coffee table.

Flower arrangements can reflect the seasons of the year with special colors, flowers, and related decorations. If it's winter time a dish of forced bulbs is a sign of spring to come. Spring flowers are numerous and small decorations can include silk butterflies. Summer flower arrangements can feature long-stemmed flowers with bright colored blooms. Fall season often has rusty colors, bright orange colors, such as chrysanthemums, reflect fall colors of pumpkins and changing leaves.
